Texas Atty Commits Suicide After 5th Circ. Denial

Law360, Houston (March 1, 2013, 5:13 PM EST) -- A Texas attorney who was to begin serving a 42-month sentence for his role in a bribery scheme involving payments to a former state trial judge committed suicide Thursday, the day after the Fifth Circuit denied his bid to remain free pending appeal.

Ray Roman Marchan, 56, who was sentenced in December on six counts of public corruption for bribing former 404th District Court Judge Abel Corral Limas for favorable rulings and case assignments, jumped from the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway near Brownsville early Thursday morning,...
