Debate Over NY Judges' Retirement Age Nears Referendum

Law360, New York (March 1, 2013, 2:33 PM EST) -- The New York State Assembly on Thursday moved the Empire State closer to an election-day vote on whether the state's top judges can serve for another decade beyond their 70th birthdays by approving a proposed amendment to the Empire State's constitution for a second time.

After the Assembly vote, the measure moved to the New York State Senate's judiciary committee, which is not likely to act until after budget negotiations wrap up at the end of March.
