U.S. Climate Bills Clash With WTO Rules: Report

Law360, New York (December 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The fuel economy standards, emissions caps and subsidies that have been touted as crucial eco-friendly provisions in the two energy bills moving through Congress could distort international trade and conflict with World Trade Organization rules, a new study has found.

Pointing to four primary measures in the energy bills that have recently passed both chambers of Congress, the National Foundation Trade Council urged U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi last week to consider the threats the laws pose to international trade before pushing them forward....
