Biofuel Amendment Expected To Bloom In Farm Bill

Law360, New York (December 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Even if biofuel standards are unable to make their way into the hotly debated Energy Bill, several senators have now offered an amendment to the United States Farm Bill that would require 36 billion gallons of biofuels by 2022.

Both Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Agriculture Committee chairman Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) said the amendment, which would add a “renewable fuels standard” with a commitment to quintupling current levels of biofuel output, would encounter little or no Senate opposition.
