Providers Unlikely To Share E-Records Despite Medicare Push

Law360, New York (March 7, 2013, 9:48 PM EST) -- Medicare said Wednesday it wants to encourage rival health providers to share patient records electronically, possibly by expanding pilot programs, but experts say there will be no real incentive to swap charts until Medicare fundamentally changes the way it pays providers.

Responding to criticism that its electronic health records incentive program does not focus enough on information sharing among providers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Wednesday asked stakeholders to weigh in on how it could better encourage information exchange.
