Merck To Develop New Drugs Despite Litigation Risks

Law360, New York (December 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Merck & Co. Inc. is pushing ahead with plans to develop a new cholesterol drug and a new obesity drug even though they are similar to other drugs with safety problems.

At its annual business briefing on Tuesday, Merck Research Laboratories President Dr. Peter S. Kim told analysts and investors that the company would file a New Drug Application in 2008 for taranabant, an investigational medication for the treatment of obesity.
