Supreme Court Next Stop For BlackBerry Patent War

Law360, New York (October 10, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit has denied Blackberry maker Research In Motion’s request for an “en banc” rehearing of the case that threatens to shut down its popular e-mail service, setting the stage for a Supreme Court showdown over the reach of U.S. patent law.

If, as expected, RIM appeals the case to the Supreme Court and the court takes the case, the outcome could set an important precedent for what some analysts are calling the extraterritorial expansion of U.S. patent law.
