Energy Cos. Can't Force DOI To Issue Leases, 10th Circ. Rules

Law360, New York (March 12, 2013, 5:58 PM EDT) -- The Tenth Circuit on Tuesday shot down an attempt by an oil and gas group and several energy companies to force the U.S. Department of the Interior to issue drilling leases within 60 days of receiving high bids on the properties.

Western Energy Alliance, along with six exploration and production companies, appealed a district court decision that found that the Bureau of Land Management must accept or reject leases within 60 days of receiving payment but stopped short of ruling it must issue the leases....
