ITC Finds LCD Backlight Patent In LG Case Invalid

Law360, New York (March 12, 2013, 3:48 PM EDT) -- A U.S. International Trade Commission administrative law judge has declared invalid a Taiwan-based research group's patent related to backlight modules used in liquid crystal displays, which the group alleges several LG Corp. units infringed, according to a decision released Monday.

ITC Administrative Law Judge Theodore Essex found that a patent held by Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute was invalid as anticipated. ITRI alleged in the case that the LG companies violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 by importing certain LCD televisions and monitors...
