BASF, Shell Reach $315M Deal In Brazil Pesticide Row

Law360, Chicago (March 13, 2013, 9:37 PM EDT) -- The Brazilian subsidiaries of chemicals giant BASF SE and energy firm Royal Dutch Shell PLC have reportedly struck a deal to pay as much as 620 million reals ($315 million) to settle a lawsuit brought by workers allegedly exposed to contamination at a pesticide plant.

The deal would end litigation in a Brazilian court that has dragged on since 2007, and would require the companies to pay for lifetime medical care and additional compensation to 1,068 of the plant's former workers, the Financial Times reported Tuesday....
