€6M Trimmed From Del Monte Banana Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (March 15, 2013, 3:38 PM EDT) -- A European Union court on Thursday trimmed an antitrust fine against Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. from €14.7 million ($19.2 million) to €8.82 million, but refused to reduce Dole Food Co. Inc.'s €45.6 million penalty for its role in a banana price-fixing plot.

The bloc's General Court upheld the bulk of the European Commission's findings that the two fruit distributors had participated in a banana cartel in Europe alongside Chiquita Brands International, which escaped penalty by bringing the plot to the watchdog's attention.
