U.K. Upholds One Lipitor Patent, Invalidates Another

Law360 (October 12, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a decision that both pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Ranbaxy plan to appeal, a U.K. court has upheld one of Pfizer’s patents for billion-dollar drug Lipitor and has ruled another invalid.

The decision comes as many wait for the outcome of a similar case between the two companies currently being tried in the United States.

Pfizer said the company was pleased with the decision, although it plans to appeal the invalidity ruling.
