Amazon Loses Gift-Order Patent In Europe

Law360, New York (December 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Patent Office has knocked Inc.’s online gift-order patent out of its grasp after determining the patent failed to meet key criteria.

The patent covering a method for purchasing items on the Internet to be sent as gifts was revoked by the EPO, which agreed with opposition from floral company Fleurop Interflora Businesses and IT organizations German Society of Information Sciences and Foundation for Free Information Infrastructure.
