Pa. House Approves Bill To Privatize Liquor Sales

Law360, Philadelphia (March 21, 2013, 10:23 PM EDT) -- The Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Thursday night passed a landmark Republican-backed bill that would allow private retailers and distributors to get into the state-controlled wine and spirit business for the first time since Prohibition, after a full day of charged debate.

While privatization of liquor sales in the state has periodically emerged on the legislative agenda, House Bill 790 marks the first time that legislation directed to that end has passed either chamber of the state Legislature since 1933.
