U.S. Criticizes WTO Case Over Farm Subsidies

Law360, New York (December 17, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. government lashed out at Canada and Brazil on Monday, saying the countries’ decision to forge ahead with proceedings in a World Trade Organization court that claim U.S. farm subsidies may unfairly skew agricultural commerce distracts from important trade negotiations.

Gretchen Hamel, a spokeswoman for U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, said in a statement Monday that Schwab is “disappointed that Canada and Brazil have decided to move forward with WTO dispute proceedings in this matter,” Reuters reported.
