Boston Univ. Zaps Samsung With LED Chip Patent Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (March 21, 2013, 9:06 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. violated U.S. federal laws by replicating Boston University's patented processes for making semiconductor devices used in light-emitting diode products, according to a patent infringement lawsuit filed Thursday in Massachusetts federal court.

Samsung "regularly and deliberately" infringed upon the BU-owned patents when it imported and sold LED devices that were manufactured by preparing crystal films in a molecular beam growth chamber, the complaint said.
