CPSC Chair Backs Consumer Database Targeted By Lawsuit

Law360, New York (March 21, 2013, 8:12 PM EDT) -- The head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission defended the agency's controversial consumer complaint database — the target of litigation last year — in a Wednesday interview with Law360, saying it did not appear to be hurting companies' profits.

Chairman Inez Tenenbaum backed the CPSC-operated database, Saferproducts.gov, to which consumers, government agencies and others can submit reports of injury or death connected to a product. Congress directed the agency to create the database in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008.
