Hatch Calls For IP Trade Czar, Prods Obama On Fast-Track

Law360, New York (March 22, 2013, 3:24 PM EDT) -- Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, introduced budget amendments Thursday that would create a new intellectual property ambassador for trade negotiations and renew so-called fast-track negotiating authority for the president.

Hatch has long called for U.S. trade negotiators to secure beefed up intellectual property rules through international agreements, like the stalled Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. To aid in those efforts, his new amendment would create a position of chief innovation and intellectual property negotiator at the office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
