Obama Withdraws Ex-Weil Atty's DC Circ. Nomination

Law360, Los Angeles (March 22, 2013, 6:31 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Friday withdrew his D.C. Circuit nomination for Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP lawyer Caitlin Halligan after nearly two and a half years of Republican opposition in the U.S. Senate and called the filibuster “unjustified.”

Obama's decision came shortly after Halligan asked the president for her nomination to be withdrawn, and two days after Senate Republicans blocked it for the second time, arguing that her so-called activist views were inappropriate for the bench.
