ND Gov. Signs Nation's Strictest Abortion Laws

Law360, New York (March 26, 2013, 5:39 PM EDT) -- North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple on Tuesday signed into law three bills giving the state the most restrictive abortion laws in the U.S., in what he admitted was a deliberate attempt to test the limits of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

S.B. 2305 requires doctors who perform abortions in North Dakota to have admitting and staff privileges at a nearby hospital, while H.B. 1305 bans abortions based solely on genetic abnormality, such as Down syndrome, or gender. The third bill, H.B. 1456, bans abortions...
