Russian EPA Fines Sakhalin II Project $15.8M

Law360, New York (December 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Russia's environmental regulators on Wednesday fined the operator of the controversial Sakhalin II oil and gas project on the country's Eastern coast over $15.8 million (390 million rubles) for deforestation and environmental damage.

Oleg Mitvol, deputy head of the Russian environmental protection agency Rosprirodnadzor, said that it had presented Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. with the fine for damage caused during the construction of a gas pipeline.
