Many US Wind Energy Initiatives Redundant, GAO Says

Law360, New York (March 28, 2013, 7:22 PM EDT) -- The federal government implemented 82 initiatives to promote wind energy development in 2011, handing out $4 billion in support, yet a majority of the initiatives overlapped and several offered duplicative financial support to single recipients, a government watchdog said Thursday.

Nine different federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Energy, Treasury Department and Department of Agriculture, implemented wind-related initiatives in 2011, providing $2.9 billion in spending obligations and at least $1.1 billion in estimated tax subsidies, according a report released by the Government Accountability Office....
