Spain Slams Envelope Printers With $57M Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (April 1, 2013, 3:38 PM EDT) -- Spain’s competition watchdog on Monday hit 15 paper companies including units of Adveo Group International SA and Printeos SA with over €44 million ($56.5 million) in fines for running a cartel in the paper envelope industry for over 30 years.

The National Competition Commission, known by its Spanish acronym CNC, said that between 1977 and 2010, the paper manufacturers entered into price-fixing agreements covering preprinted envelopes for elections, large corporate customers and other corners of the Spanish envelope market.
