Railroads Can't Quash $40M Wis. Superfund Cleanup Suit

Law360, New York (April 2, 2013, 1:43 PM EDT) -- A federal judge refused Monday to toss Northern States Power Co.'s suit seeking help from two railroad companies, an electrical contractor and the city of Ashland, Wis., in paying the $40 million needed to clean up the Ashland Lakefront Superfund site.

Northern States is attempting to recoup money it spent from 1995 to 2003 at the site on Lake Superior, as well as costs incurred under a 2003 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency administrative order and a 2012 consent order.
