Open-Source Software Outfit Gets Microsoft Protocols

Law360, New York (December 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- Microsoft Corp. has entered into an agreement with the Protocol Freedom Information Foundation, which will allow the foundation to provide detailed information on Microsoft protocols to help software developers write code that works with Microsoft operating systems.

The deal follows the September 2007 denial of Microsoft's appeal of a 2004 antitrust decision against it by the European Commission, which levied a €497 million fine against Microsoft and directed the company to turn over interoperability protocols to rivals.
