Pipe Co. Settles With FTC Over Acquisition of Rival

Law360, New York (April 3, 2013, 6:09 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement Tuesday to resolve its allegations that one of the country's biggest cast-iron pipe manufacturers stifled competition by secretly acquiring an upstart rival.

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Co. agreed to void key provisions of the unreported 2010 deal for Star Pipe Products Inc. and to disclose more of its merger activity after the commission accused the company of buying the rival in order to snuff out a rising competitive threat.
