Supplement Trade Group Floats Voluntary Caffeine Rules

Law360, New York (April 4, 2013, 8:19 PM EDT) -- A dietary supplement trade group on Wednesday proposed voluntary guidelines for the labeling of supplements containing caffeine, recommending that companies include a disclaimer discouraging children and others from consuming more highly caffeinated products.

The guidelines, released by the Council for Responsible Nutrition, also advise supplement makers to disclose the caffeine content in their products, from both added caffeine and so-called natural sources such as green tea extract.
