Law360, New York (April 9, 2013, 1:50 PM EDT) -- Marilyn Tavenner appeared solidly on track Tuesday to become the first U.S. Senate-confirmed chief of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in seven years, as lawmakers from both parties praised her steady leadership amid turbulent times for the health care industry.

The nomination hearing was quickly deprived of drama when Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, issued an opening statement declaring that Tavenner, who has helmed CMS in an acting role since late 2011, has “the qualifications to do the job.”
