Florida Power's Deal With 3 Biomass Plants Gets Go-Ahead

Law360, Miami (April 9, 2013, 6:25 PM EDT) -- Florida Power & Light Co. got the green light Tuesday to purchase renewable power from three biomass energy facilities planned by U.S. EcoGen LLC, in a deal projected to save utility customers about $90 million over 30 years.

The Florida Public Service Commission approved FLP's contracts to buy power from the generating plants, which will be built in Okeechobee, Clay and Martin counties and are expected to go online in June 2019. Each plans to provide 60 megawatts to FPL and to operate on a closed-loop biomass...
