USPTO Drops Opposition To IPad Mini Trademark

Law360, New York (April 8, 2013, 3:24 PM EDT) -- An examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has backed down from refusing Apple Inc.'s “iPad Mini” trademark application, withdrawing an earlier determination that the mark was “merely descriptive,” according a USPTO action released Wednesday.

USPTO examining attorney Lee-Anne Berns issued a supplemental office action letter, which supersedes the office's January refusal of Apple's bid to trademark the phrase “iPad Mini” on the premise that the mark was not a unique, nondescriptive term for the product.
