Ala. Won’t Enforce ACA Insurance Protections, Gov. Says

Law360, New York (April 8, 2013, 7:12 PM EDT) -- Alabama won’t enforce a number of new Affordable Care Act-mandated health insurance provisions aimed at increasing enrollment in health plans and protecting consumers, instead leaving enforcement up to the federal government, according to Gov. Robert Bentley.

Bentley announced the decision in a letter sent to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services last month, telling the agency that the state would continue to enforce its own insurance laws, but that the federal government was responsible for ensuring health insurance plans in the state complied with...
