US Must Learn More On Nuclear Disaster Planning, GAO Says

Law360, New York (April 11, 2013, 2:52 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government should know more about the radiological disaster preparedness of communities living just beyond the 10-mile emergency planning zones surrounding U.S. nuclear facilities, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a report released Wednesday.

The GAO said the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency should understand how communities outside the zones would respond in the event of a disaster at a nuclear plant, especially regarding evacuation procedures.
