US, Guatemala End Fight Over Labor Rights Violations

Law360, New York (April 11, 2013, 4:56 PM EDT) -- The U.S. and Guatemala have reached a settlement in a long-running dispute over worker conditions in the Central American country, U.S. trade and labor officials said Thursday.

Guatemala has agreed to beef up inspections, heighten penalties for labor violations and implement more than a dozen other policy changes within six months to resolve the case, according to acting U.S. Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis and acting Secretary of Labor Seth Harris.
