FDA Lists Poor Conditions At Compounding Pharmacies

Law360, New York (April 12, 2013, 8:37 PM EDT) -- Nearly all compounding pharmacies inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently had conditions that increased the risk of drug contamination, the agency said Thursday, days before the agency commissioner's scheduled appearance before a House panel to plead for more explicit FDA authority over compounders.

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg announced the findings in a blog post Thursday titled, “Proactive Inspections Further Highlight Need for New Authorities for Pharmacy Compounding.”
