Ohio Attys Can Text Prospective Clients, Panel Says

Law360, New York (April 15, 2013, 7:33 PM EDT) -- Ohio lawyers can practice at multiple law firms simultaneously and use cellphone text messages to solicit business, a state Supreme Court advisory committee has said in separate opinions.

In the multiple firm opinion published this month, the state Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline overturned previous opinions that discouraged lawyers from practicing at multiple firms.

The latest opinion cited "significant ethical issues" but found that lawyers can do so if they adhere strictly to rules of professional conduct on conflicts of interest and client confidentiality....
