Fla. Senate Panel Advances Expert Testimony Bill

Law360, Miami (April 15, 2013, 7:32 PM EDT) -- A Florida Senate panel on Monday advanced a bill that would bring the state's standards for evaluating the admissibility of expert witness testimony in line with the Daubert standard used in federal courts.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-3 to advance S.B. 1412, which, if passed, would shift the state from the Frye standard, followed since 1923, to the Daubert standard, which is more stringent and gives judges greater control over whether to admit expert testimony.
