West Penn Says $1.6B Highmark Deal Will End Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 2:34 PM EDT) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc. asked a Pennsylvania federal judge Monday to stay discovery in an antitrust suit challenging its $1.6 billion sale to insurer Highmark Inc., saying the imminent completion of the deal would put an end to the suit.

West Penn filed an uncontested motion to put off discovery for 90 days in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s suit claiming debt-laden West Penn conspired with Highmark to make the deal and monopolize the Pittsburgh health care market.
