Energy Cos. Retool Plants' Safety Plans To Settle EPA Claims

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 3:06 PM EDT) -- A MarkWest Energy Partners LP unit and a Williams Partners LP joint venture have agreed to revamp maintenance and safety procedures at their western Pennsylvania natural gas facilities to comply with federal clean air regulations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday.

The two separate settlements follow a 2011 investigation which revealed that MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources and Laurel Mountain Midstream Operating failed to comply with a Clean Air Act regulation that governs accidental air releases of flammable substances, according to the EPA.
