Congress Ripped For Not Enacting Post-Deepwater Reforms

Law360, New York (April 17, 2013, 4:47 PM EDT) -- Former members of a presidential panel that investigated the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill blasted Congress on Wednesday for its continued failure to enact offshore drilling safety and enforcement measures recommended by the panel in 2011.

While steps taken by both the Obama administration and the offshore industry over the past year have improved offshore drilling safety, Congress only managed to enact the Restore Act, which provides that 80 percent of Clean Water Act penalties stemming from the spill will pay for Gulf Coast restoration projects,...
