Food Biz Gets FDA To Extend Comment Period On Safety Regs

Law360, New York (April 19, 2013, 3:42 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will extend the comment period for two major Food Safety Modernization Act rules, the head of the agency said Thursday, after food companies complained they needed more time to review the proposals.

The agency released the proposed rules in January, establishing a May 16 deadline for the submission of comments. One rule would require food companies to create written plans to prevent product contamination, while the other would create safety standards for fruits and vegetables.
