Pa. Dem Pushes For Moderate To Replace Convicted Justice

Law360, Philadelphia (April 19, 2013, 3:27 PM EDT) -- The Democratic chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday pushed Republican Gov. Tom Corbett to appoint a moderate Republican to fill the upcoming vacancy on the state’s high court created by the conviction of Justice Joan Orie Melvin.

In an open letter to the governor, Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Montgomery, provided a list of five Republican judges whom he would be willing to support and whom he believed could receive sufficient Democratic backing to generate the required two-thirds majority for confirmation in the state Senate....
