Cemex Will Pay $1M To Settle Colo. Clean Air Act Claims

Law360, New York (April 19, 2013, 4:32 PM EDT) -- Cemex Inc. has agreed to pay $1 million to settle Clean Air Act claims stemming from allegedly illegal modifications to a Colorado cement plant that resulted in significant pollution increases of nitrogen oxide, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

The settlement puts an end to claims brought by the Justice Department and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that Cemex owns and operates a Portland cement manufacturing facility in Lyons, Colo., at which the company unlawfully made modifications between 1997 and 2000 that resulted in significant...
