Chicago Insurance Looks To Duck Asbestos Defense Coverage

Law360, New York (April 24, 2013, 1:35 PM EDT) -- Umbrella liability policies from Chicago Insurance Co. provide no defense coverage for underlying worker asbestos exposure lawsuits against insulation company Reilly-Benton Co. Inc., the insurer told a Louisiana federal court on Tuesday.

Asking for a declaratory judgment stating that Chicago Insurance is not obligated to fund Reilly-Benton's pending litigation battles in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, the insurer says the insulation company seeks recovery for legal costs outside of the 1983-1986 policy period.
