Senate Confirms Burwell As New OMB Head

Law360, Washington (April 24, 2013, 7:30 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to confirm Sylvia Mathews Burwell as the new director of the Office of Management and Budget, an arm of the executive branch that oversees the federal budget and the quality of agency programs, policies and procedures.

President Barack Obama applauded the bipartisan 96-0 vote in favor of Burwell, calling her a “key member of my economic team.” Burwell will replace acting director Jeffrey Zients in the midst of the political wrangling over deficit spending, tax increases and the sequestration....
