Federal Lawmakers Seek To Mandate GMO Labeling

Law360, New York (April 25, 2013, 6:23 PM EDT) -- Lawmakers in both houses of Congress unveiled legislation on Wednesday that would require the labeling of genetically engineered food, a mandate already under consideration in states across the country.

Dozens of legislators, nearly all of them Democrats, are co-sponsoring S. 809 and H.R. 1699, both known as the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act. The bills' primary sponsors are Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore.
