Democratic Sen. Blocks Vote On New Medicare Chief

Law360, New York (April 24, 2013, 5:51 PM EDT) -- Angered by diversion of Affordable Care Act preventive care funds, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, placed a hold Wednesday on Marilyn Tavenner’s nomination to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, an unexpected Democratic obstacle that emerged just as Republican opposition had melted away.

A spokeswoman for Harkin explained the senator’s motivation by pointing to a congressional hearing Wednesday in which the senators said he was “greatly disappointed” that the Obama administration has chosen to fund ACA implementation “by raiding the Public Health and Prevention Fund”...
