UPMC Blasts Highmark's Bid For Sanctions In Antitrust Row

Law360, Philadelphia (April 26, 2013, 5:23 PM EDT) -- The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Thursday blasted Highmark Inc.'s bid for sanctions in UPMC's antitrust suit over the health insurer's plans to acquire West Penn Allegheny Health Systems, saying its suit was legitimate and based on "overwhelming" evidence.

In a partially redacted brief filed in Pennsylvania federal court, UPMC defended its suit contending Highmark had conspired to acquire West Penn so it could monopolize the local health care market and shut out UPMC, and said the insurer's bid for sanctions was out of line....
