Enviros Claim TVA Rushed $1.2B Coal Plant Project Approval

Law360, New York (April 26, 2013, 1:33 PM EDT) -- Local and national environmental groups hit the Tennessee Valley Authority with a National Environmental Policy Act suit in federal court Thursday, accusing the agency of pumping $1.2 billion into an aging fossil fuel plant without properly looking into alternatives.

The Sierra Club, Center for Biological Diversity and two Tennessee-based organizations claim that TVA is shirking its obligations under NEPA by not evaluating environmental consequences of the so-called life-extension project at the coal-fired Gallatin Fossil Plant just outside of Nashville.
