Keystone Exempt From Property Tax, Kan. Appeals Court Says

Law360, Los Angeles (April 26, 2013, 4:31 PM EDT) -- TransCanada Corp. doesn't have to pay Kansas property taxes for the Keystone XL pipeline extension running through the state because it qualifies for a statutory exemption applicable when Kansas refineries can access crude oil from a state-based pipeline, a state appeals court said Friday.

While Kansas refineries can only obtain Keystone oil by going outside the state, the pipeline nevertheless qualifies for the exemption, whose language doesn't specify that the access points be located in Kansas, the appellate court ruled.
