NY Chief Judge Ushers In New Pro Bono Rules On Law Day

Law360, New York (May 1, 2013, 2:29 PM EDT) -- New York attorneys must now report their pro bono hours and their financial donations to public interest legal organizations every two years when they refile their attorney registration, state Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman announced Wednesday during the Court of Appeals' Law Day celebrations.

The state now joins seven others — including Florida, Maryland and New Mexico — in instituting mandatory reporting. The reporting standards go hand in hand with the state's revised pro bono service goal, which leapt from 20 hours per year to 50 hours...
